Why Go To Church?
Who'd Be A Baptist?

OUR CORE PURPOSES

As a church we believe that it is important that we are clear about what the church exists for. We have 5 core values and purposes that help us to keep focused. Our action plan is based on seeing these worked out in the life of the church.

We exist to:
Encourage people to be baptised as followers of Jesus
(Missionary Community)

We will:
  • Offer regular Alpha courses
  • Encourage people to invite friends and neighbours to events, church and courses
  • Show the difference that following Jesus makes to every day life
  • Set up a new outreach group with people who are gifted in sharing their faith
  • Encourage and help people to be able to share their faith
Include people in God's family
(Inclusive Community)
We will:
  • Offer a membership course explaining the benefits and responsibilities of membership
  • Ensure people get a warm welcome on a Sunday morning.
  • Support Geoff Hill in his role as Pastoral Care co-ordinator
Serve one another the community and wider world
(Prophetic Community)
We will:
  • Offer a course helping people to make the links between faith and the world around them.
  • Highlight the work that we support at Home Mission and World Mission, frequently in the 'Messenger', services and on the notice board
  • Have a service twice a year with emphasis on issues of justice and peace
  • Have a sermon series once a year with emphasis on issues of justice and peace
  • New sharing group to advise on ways in which we can serve our community through the redeveloped premises
To help people to grow in their faith
(Sacrificial Community)
We will:
  • Promote cell groups as places of learning, accountability and friendship
  • Offer regular training and opportunities for reflection for cell group leaders
  • Keep our church library well stocked with books focussed on issues such as marriage, parenting, work, life, etc.
We do all this 'Inspired by the awesome God'
whom we worship
(Worshipping Community)
We will:
  • Work towards a more participatory and spontaneous approach to worship by offering opportunities to tell stories, bring a scripture, a prayer, a prophetic word
  • Consider how the lay out of the church enables the above
  • Develop the links between daily life and worship so that Sunday worship impacts on life
  • Preaching programme to include teaching on issues such as work, play, family, community and culture.
